FAQs

ABOUT THE STUDIO

錨點 1

1. What other equipment do you have?

We are a fully equipped studio so have all of the classical equipment by Align Pilates, mat by Airex and small props from Balanced Body, etc.

In private sessions, you may spend time working on the Mat, Reformer, Tower, Chair, Spine Corrector, Ladder barrel and other small pieces of equipment e.g. Foam Roller, BOSU.

2.Do you have changing rooms and showers?

Yes, we do have facilities for you to change, but sadly there are no showers available.

3. How many people are in a class?

We can cater to 6 clients in a Mat class and up to 4 in a Reformer/Tower class.

4. Will I be the only one in the studio when I have a private session?

Sadly not.

We generally have other sessions going on at the same time during the usual studio operating hours.

If you would prefer a quieter time, please speak to a member of the front of house team, who will always try to accommodate (where they can!) your request, however we unfortunately cannot guarantee you will be the only client in the studio at any one time.

5. Are the classes for male and females?

Yes, they are all mixed.

NEW TO HORIS'

1. What clothes shall I wear/what shall I bring?

We suggest wearing clothes that you feel comfortable moving in. For example leggings, T shirt, shorts etc. Don't forget your socks as well. Preferably a grip socks will be the best for you in class.

Whilst we provide filtered water, it is a good idea to bring your water bottle and maybe a towel, however this is not essential.

2. I’m not very flexible, can I still join in?

Of course!

All of our teachers are incredible! They will offer modifications to all exercises to cater for all body types and abilities.

Flexibility (and improving it!) is a huge part and benefit of practising regular Pilates.

3. Am I too old for Pilates?

Not a chance!

You are never too old, and can participate in private one to one sessions even if you think a class is moving a little too fast.

There are no high intensity movements or jumping, and there are pieces of equipment that are easily accessible (ie. The Tower or Chairs) if you struggle to bend down. The teachers can give you 1:1 attention to ensure you are kept safe at all times.

4. How often can I do Pilates?

You practise Pilates as often as you like!

Classical Pilates will leave you feeling worked, but you won’t have huge aches and pains for days after so you can do it several times a week.

We recommend doing sessions 2-3 times a week.

5. I’m a newbie…how do I book in?

We recommend that all new clients to Horis' Body Movement Studio take up our new client offer, even if you have done Pilates before.

We have 1 introductory trial available, include 1 private session tailored to you, which will introduce you to the equipment and prepare you for group classes (MOP680).

6. What is the difference between Mat, Tower and Reformer?

The Mat is suitable for everyone who are new to Pilates to practice the main ideas of Pilates which contains breathing, core control, spine articulation, head, neck and shoulder alignment, weight bearing of extremities and movement integration. With the basic movement skills of Pilates, you are more confident to try any other Pilates equipments or advanced movements to challenge yourself.

The Tower is a mat based workout with all of the equipment on a structure on the wall, it has; leg springs, arm springs, a roll back and push through bar. The classes will be varied and the teachers will plan a class that works the full body.

The Reformer is a horizontal moving bed with five springs and two arm straps that can also be transitioned to leg straps. You can sit, lie and stand on the Reformer, as well as place a box on top to lie/sit on for some exercises. The Reformer classes follow a set sequence; Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. The teachers will add variations and modifications for set exercises, but the classes will always follow a set structure depending on the level of the class.

7. I’m pregnant/have just had a baby, can I join a class?

Unfortunately our classes are not suitable for pre and post-natal clients.

We do have teachers who specialise in pre & post-natal Pilates who would be happy to teach you privately in a one to one.

Please wait until you have had your Doctor’s approval to exercises after giving birth (minimum 6 weeks after a natural birth and 12 weeks after C section).

8. I have an injury, can I join in?

We would always recommend doing a private session first, please communicate with the team (the reception staff and teacher) beforehand and give as much detail as possible.

This will help us understand and prepare for your session and give us more information so we can recommend the best teachers and classes for you.

9. How do I sign up to classes and privates?

You can make the appointment online and pay for the class online or come to the studio.

After you have read and fully understand all the rules and regulations of the studio of the studio. Then, confirm of the date and time of your appointment with us.

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Can I lose weight doing Pilates?

We tend not to focus on weight loss in our sessions, as we direct the intention towards deepening the mind body connection and gaining strength.

With a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise, weight loss is possible through Pilates as it compliments other training styles, however, given the classes/privates aren’t HIIT style or cardio, then Pilates alone will likely tone the body rather than increase fat loss.

2. Do you teach children/teenagers?

Yes!

We are able to teach children and teenagers but in a one to one, private session with a teacher.

We do allow clients aged 16 and over to join the classes if the teacher feels they are ready to participate in a class safely.

2. What are the benefits of Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise invented by Joseph Pilates which named after him. The concept of Pilates is about contrology of the body. By practicing breathing and motor control, to relearn and feel the activation of the body with a better sequencing.

Placing the body back to a better neutral of yourself. Building up a more precise posture alignment and movement pattern in life.

You may not sweating a lot in the body and you will definitely find it is tiring in your brain as you will learn to awake a lot of "new" activation of the muscles that has been slept for so long.

You will learn about the structure and function of the body and how to use the body properly. So as to stay away from pain and injury and increase the quality of life.
